Day of the Seafarer
Shipping facilitates c. 90% of global trade by volume. Tufton is pleased to work with our partners, customers and the wider maritime industry to ensure the best possible working environment for the men and women who provide the backbone of international trade and the global economy.
The pandemic has created challenges for crew safety and welfare. In this context, the theme for this year’s Day of the Seafarer is a “Fair future for Seafarers” and focused on some of the most basic of rights: Fair treatment, working conditions, training and safety.
Tufton is a signatory to the Neptune Declaration which calls for recognising seafarers as key workers, providing them priority access to vaccines, implementing gold-standard health protocols, and improving access for crew relief.
Tufton is also a signatory to the BIMCO Gulf of Guinea declaration on the Suppression of Piracy which supports antipiracy law enforcement as mandated by international law to ensure that seafarers have a greater degree of security when working in international waters.
Tufton continues to take extraordinary efforts to ensure our seafarers are provided with an opportunity for relief on time and an overall safe onboard working environment.
