TR Lady retrofitted with rotor sails and starts charter with Cargill
Tufton Investment Management (“Tufton”) is pleased to announce that the TR Lady, a 2017 build 82,000 dwt bulk carrier, owned by Tufton managed funds, has been successfully retrofitted with 3 rotor sails. The rotors were manufactured by Anemoi Marine Technologies and use the Magnus effect to generate thrust thereby reducing the vessel’s fuel consumption and carbon footprint.
The vessel is on time charter to Cargill who also had the vessel on time charter during the planning and implementation phase of the project. Tufton and Cargill will continue working together to maximize the benefits and potential of the rotors
Andrew Hampson, CEO of Tufton said, “We and our investors are committed to shipping’s decarbonization journey and believe wind propulsion is a key enabler in helping Tufton reach its 2050 net zero goals. We are very proud to have been able to support this innovative application of decarbonization technology on the TR Lady.”
Cargill’s Jan Dieleman, president of Cargill’s Ocean Transportation business said, “We are pleased to be partnering with Tufton who share our decarbonization ambition and belief in wind propulsion as a key part of the future of shipping.”
